The energy as Techne’s Sip & Connect series reconvened in March was nothing short of roaring. Bringing together visionaries in AI, hospitality, and venture capital over Michelin-starred hors d’oeuvres and fine wine at the Shashi Hotel, the evening proved that the most powerful connections happen at the intersection of deep domain expertise and cutting-edge tech.
During the event, we shared the significant evolution of Techne. What began as a straightforward venture fund has transformed into something much more ambitious: a value-add hub. While the world’s foundational AI companies are investing trillions into models, the massive question remains – how do you actually monetize that investment? The answer lies in vertical solutions.
Hospitality is one of the world’s most data-rich yet least digitized industries. With 28 million rooms globally, a solution that works for one room can scale to 100,000, creating unicorn-level impact almost overnight. From our own experience and through discussions with countless foundational AI companies, it’s clear that “digital transformation” is no longer enough. The real frontier is going AI-native. Techne has become the bridge, helping the OpenAIs of the world connect to the domain to unlock vertical value.
While, of course, the thesis is crucial, we believe deeply in two additional components: timing and team. We’ve hit the market at the precise inflection point where AI is transitioning from general intelligence to specific, vertical-scale utility.
