Karimulla Shaikh (
Karim) aboard as CTO of Techne Studio.
Karim is an experienced technologist and educator focused on transformative software solutions for data center power management, with a career built at the intersection of AI, cloud infrastructure, and systems thinking. Across 30+ years in industry and academia, he has built a reputation for turning complex infrastructure and power challenges into elegant, scalable systems that quietly keep the world running.
As CTO of Volta Insite, Karim leads innovations in AI agents that can augment in-house electrical engineers to keep up with the growing scale of power infrastructure, especially in data centers. Previously, as CTO at Cato Digital, he led the development of low-cost, low-carbon private cloud infrastructure, leveraging circular economy equipment and excess data center capacity to deliver scalable, energy-efficient compute globally. Karim has also held senior technology leadership roles as Sr. Vice President – Product Development, Language Solutions at SDL, an intelligent language and content company with a vision to enable global understanding. Prior to this, he was Vice President – Product Development and Operations at Faculte, where he built end‑to‑end multimedia production and distribution platforms for marketing, education, and training professionals.
Alongside his operator track, Karim has spent a decade as faculty at Carnegie Mellon University’s Integrated Innovation Institute, where he teaches technology and leadership through courses on integrated innovation, systems thinking, and futures studies. His experiential pedagogy – spanning machine learning, blockchain, software architecture, and wicked problem domains such as AI in society and safe spaces vs. free speech – has equipped emerging leaders to design not just products, but futures. He is also a contributor to Greener Data volumes 1 and 2, championing sustainability, efficiency, and responsible electrification in data centers as AI reshapes digital infrastructure demand.
Across roles as CTO, advisor, patent-holding inventor, and community builder, Karim has consistently translated complex power and infrastructure challenges into scalable, AI-driven platforms that blend human expertise with always-on agents. At Techne Studio, we’re excited to see him bring that same systems-level view to hospitality and travel – architecting resilient, AI-native back-end systems, enabling intelligent operations, and helping our founders design category-defining ventures that are not only high-performing, but also energy-aware and sustainable by design.
